This Bitter Earth

For every beauty there is a horror. For every love there is a loss. A husband who has lost his wife will live on to feel that emptiness alone. Love turned to pain. But yet in each teardrop is the memory of a smile. In this way pain is the proof of our happiness. There is a price to be paid, but that doesn't have to mean it's not worth the cost. When we feel all that remains is sadness, it's up to us to remember there has been and will again be joy as well.

This Bitter Earth _ Dinah Washington

This bitter earth
What fruit it bears
What good is love
That no one shares
And if my life is like the dust
That hides the glow of a rose
What good am I
Heaven only knows
This bitter Earth
Can it be so cold
Today you're young
Too soon your old
But while a voice
Within me cries
I'm sure someone
May answer my call
And this bitter earth
May not be so bitter after all
